Rooted Learning Experience

by pastorahsh on Apr.10, 2009, under Rooted Learning Experience

Join us for the Rooted Learning Experience.  This class will be offered twice a year, or as needed.  It is open to anyone who is curious about the claims of Christ or the distinctives of Grassroots Church.  It is also a requirement for membership with Grassroots.  To find out when the next Rooted is being offered, contact Pastor Ahsh by e-mail.

Rooted Learning Experience Description

Together we will explore and ask the hard questions about the foundations of the Christian faith and the heart of the teachings of Jesus.  Through this learning experience, participants will discover what makes Grassroots such a unique community of faith, but so much more than this, they will be invited to encounter the risen Christ in a warm and safe environment, where creative response and interactive learning will bring the the teachings of Jesus to light in new and transformative ways.

Throughout our Learning Experience, we will seek to discover and embody a Christ-centered life which is Authentic, Holistic, Communal, and Reformissional.  We will ask these questions:

  1. What is the Bible and how did we get it?  Can it be trusted?  What are practical tools for studying and understanding the Bible?
  2. What is the central message of the Scriptures?  Who was the real Jesus and what did he come to teach?
  3. How do we live all of life as sacred and an expression of devotion?  How does the story of the scriptures apply to sex, family, money, race, power, work, marijuana?
  4. What streams of Christian heritage does Grassroots Church embody?  How can we be both theologically conservative and culturally progressive?
  5. What is a true church and what is the significance of church membership?  What does intentional loving community really look like?
  6. What does it mean to be reformissional?  How can we each participate in God’s plan of bringing peace and wholeness to all peoples?

Community Groups

by pastorahsh on Apr.10, 2009, under Community Groups

We do not believe that church is a building or an event.  It is a community of people.  One way that we express our life as a community is by gathering in small groups during the week.  In these groups we share life together, living on mission in our neighborhoods, and seek to grow together in our walk with Christ.  Contact us by e-mail or visit our sunday morning gatherings to find out how you can be involved.

For more info on our men’s groups, e-mail Pastor Steve.

Sunday Worship Gathering

by pastorahsh on Apr.10, 2009, under Sunday Worship Gathering

Sacred Gatherings

Sundays at 10 a.m.

The Akebono Theatre in Downtown Pahoa (Next-door to Luquinn’s Mexican Restaurant)

Our gatherings are casual and free-spirited.  Together we enjoy rhythmic music as we sing about the goodness and mercy of God.  We eat and laugh and hang-out.  There is a teaching time where we go through the scriptures and often share a group discussion and dialogue.  We respond in devotion to Christ in many ways, including partaking in the Lord’s Supper and giving financially as God leads.

For visitors and those unsure about Christ, we put no expectation on you to give any money and no one will try to pressure you into converting.  We believe that everyone is on the path of seeking God and we seek to provide a safe environment for people of all backgrounds to investigate the teachings of Christ.

Directions:

Take the Keaau-Pahoa Road towards Pahoa (Highway 130). Turn into Pahoa Village and drive towards downtown. Go past Bank of Hawaii and Apa’a St. Turn right into the dirt parking lot with Luquin’s Mexican Restaurant. Please park behind the theatre in the back lot so that we can save the front parking for the Mexican Restaurant.
